NOTE – THE TOUR INVOLVES EXTENSIVE WALKING AND SOME CLIMBING OF STAIRS

TRIUMF
Triumf, located at the University of British Columbia is one of the world’s leading subatomic physics laboratories; it is Canada’s national laboratory for nuclear and particle physics research and related sciences. Launched in 1968 by three Universities as a local facility for intermediate-energy nuclear physics, Triumf is now owned and operated by a consortium of 17 Canadian Universities. The Laboratory has expanded its fields of research from nuclear physics to include particle physics, molecular and materials science, and nuclear medicine. Triumf has a staff of 340 scientists, engineers, and technicians and a further 140 post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and co-op students, thereby training the next generation of leaders.
The tours will be given by researchers who will be able to answer your questions. The tour will begin in the lobby at the small scale model of Triumf where you will hear a general description and history of the site. Subsequently, the guides will walk you through part of the experimental buildings where you will see first-hand where Triumf experiments are done.
9:45 AM – ARRIVE AT TRUMF; RECEIVE PARKING TICKET FROM ACTIVITIES MEMBER AND PARK IN THE PAY PARKING LOT – YOU WILL RECEIVE PARKING INSTRUCTION UPON ARRIVAL
10:00 AM – MAIN RECEPTION AREA TRIUMF – OPENING TOUR REMARKS
10.00 AM TO 11:45 – GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF TRIUMF – 3 INDIVIDUALLY GUIDED GROUPS
12:00 – NO HOST LUNCH at UBC GOLF COURSE RESTAURANT – UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD
TRAVELLING INSTRUCTIONS TO TRIUMF AT UBC
Make you way to the Roundabout at south UBC campus at 16th and Wesbrook Crescent
From the Roundabout head due south on Wesbrook, past all the apartment buildings and businesses. Continue south until to arrive at Triumf – it will be on the left.
Enter and receive further parking instructions from Activity Member guide.
